Know The Species
The Blue Duiker is a small antelope found in the forests of Southern and Eastern Africa. Despite its name, its coat colour varies from reddish-brown to greyish-brown and is not typically blue.
They are one of the smallest antelopes in the world, standing only about 35 centimetres at the shoulder and weighing around 5 kilograms. Blue Duikers are solitary and nocturnal, feeding primarily on fruit, seeds, and insects.
Due to their small size and secretive nature, they are difficult to spot in the wild. Despite their unassuming appearance, Blue Duikers play an important role in their ecosystems by dispersing seeds and serving as prey for larger predators.
How To Aim From Different Angles
Try to avoid shots on the shoulder. This will lead to trophy damage if you are using larger calibers.

The shot should be placed behind the shoulder in line with the front leg and almost two thirds of the way up from the bottom of the brisket to the top of the back.

Place the shot in the center of the chest of the duiker where the throat joins the chest. Avoid those shots with high velocity calibers.

Depending on what caliber you are using a quartering away shot on duiker will be fine in most cases. Large calibers will lead to trophy damage on these small frame animals.

Aim for the inside of the closer shoulder of the duiker, aiming one third of the way from the bottom of the brisket to the top of the back.

- The .308 caliber, employing a minimum bullet weight of 165 grains and a muzzle velocity of approximately 3,000 fps, provides excellent performance for duiker hunting.
- The legendary .30-06 caliber, often hailed as one of the greatest calibers, has consistently delivered outstanding results when hunting duiker. Utilizing Barnes TTSX 150-grain ammunition at a velocity slightly below 2,800 fps, this combination ensures optimal results in your hunting endeavors.
