Home » Hunting Catalogue – Golden Gemsbuck
It is important to use an appropriate caliber and ammunition that offer sufficient power and expansion for hunting a Golden Wildebeest.
The Golden Gemsbuck, also known as the Golden Oryx, is a rare colour variation of the common Gemsbuck or Oryx found in the arid regions of Southern Africa.
As the name suggests, their coat colour is a striking golden hue with white markings on the face, belly, and legs. This colour variation is thought to be a genetic mutation, making them a sought-after trophy for game hunters.
However, Golden Gemsbuck are also valued for their conservation importance as they play an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of arid ecosystems.
They are well-adapted to the harsh desert conditions, feeding on sparse vegetation and surviving without water for long periods. Golden Gemsbuck are highly social animals, living in groups called “herds” and are known for their impressive horns, which can grow up to 85 centimetres in length.
When the Golden Gemsbuck presents a broadside position, aim for the center of the shoulder, just behind the front leg. This shot placement allows for maximum penetration into the vital organs, including the heart and lungs, ensuring a quick and effective takedown.
For a broadside or slightly quartering-away shot, targeting the high chest area is effective. Aim just above the front leg, aiming to reach the heart and lungs. This shot placement ensures vital organ damage and leads to a quick and humane kill.
If the Golden Gemsbuck is quartering away from you, aim slightly behind the shoulder on the side facing away. This shot placement provides an opportunity to reach the vitals, including the lungs and heart. Aim to hit the midsection between the shoulder and the hindquarters.
While personal preferences and specific hunting conditions may vary, the following calibers are commonly recommended for hunting Golden Wildebeest:
