The Golden Wildebeest

KNOW YOUR SPECIES. KNOW YOUR GROUNDS. KNOW YOUR QUARRY.

KNOW YOUR SHOT

The Gold Wildebeest is recognised for its striking golden-brown coat, which is a result of selective breeding by wildlife ranchers in South Africa.

KNOW YOUR SPECIES

Hunting Shot Placement

They can weigh up to 600 pounds and stand up to four feet tall at the shoulder. Gold Wildebeests are grazers and feed on grasses and herbs, and can travel long distances in search of food and water.

They are social animals and live in large herds, sometimes numbering in the thousands, which helps them defend against predators such as lions and hyenas. Interestingly, like the Blue Wildebeest, the Gold Wildebeest also engages in mass migrations, moving across the savanna in search of food and water.

Gold Wildebeests are primarily bred for hunting purposes and are not found in the wild, though they are the same species as the Blue Wildebeest.

It is important to use an appropriate caliber and ammunition that offer sufficient power and expansion for hunting a Golden Wildebeest.

How To Aim From Different Angles

ALWAYS KEEP THE MUZZLE POINTED IN A SAFE DIRECTION

THE GOLDEN WILDEBEEST
KNOW YOUR SHOT

When the Golden Wildebeest presents a broadside position, aim for the center of the shoulder, just behind the front leg. This shot placement allows for maximum penetration into the vital organs, ensuring a swift and clean kill.

KNOW YOUR SHOT

For a broadside or slightly quartering-away shot, targeting the high chest area is effective. Aim just above the front leg, aiming to reach the heart and lungs. This shot placement ensures vital organ damage and leads to a quick expiration of the animal.

If the Golden Wildebeest is quartering away from you, aim slightly behind the shoulder on the side facing away. This shot placement provides an opportunity to reach the vitals, including the lungs and heart.
